Waltham Forest Council renewed its London Councils Internship Programme (LCIP) Framework Agreement with CoSector - University of London, providing project-based internships to graduates within a range of council departments, from environmental planning to marketing and child care.
CoSector Recruitment Services (previously part of The Careers Group) have been working with Waltham Forest Council since 2013, successfully placing 136 interns so far.
The LCIP Scheme
Officially launched in May 2013, the LCIP scheme has gone from strength to strength. Not only does it provide graduates with valuable work experience, it also helps promote a wide range of career opportunities available within the public sector, thus raising the profile of local authorities and governmental bodies.
Internships on offer include research, administration, customer relations, communications, finance, HR, and technical roles, lasting between two and 12 months. All LCIP interns are paid an allowance based on the London Living Wage and benefit from tax and national insurance exemptions.
The scheme is open to graduates from all UK universities, creating strong relationships between London councils and graduates, as well as providing long-term benefits to all parties. So far, eight London councils have joined the scheme, and CoSector is working with more to expand the scope of the LCIP.
